Live Music Photography: Waterson:Carthy Live Music

Well I have never been to the Barfly and to be honest it was only in looking on behalf of someone else for another band that I ever discovered it and then noticed that Waterson:Carthy were playing.

Its a small venue.... upstairs in a converted building with wooden inlayed ceiling. Dark, dingy and atmospheric.

The warm up was entertaining.. Paul Goodwin. Entertaining for the wrong reasons. He lacked self confidence and looked very uncomfortable on stage. His songs were a bit samey and seemed to center around his life experience... or rather lack of with the opposite sex! Even songs that were essentially supposed to be happy had the ability to drag down even the most resilient of happy people! Leonard Cohen meets Peter Hamil!!!

10 minutes or so after Norma, Martin, Saul and Eliza walked onto stage through the crowd only for Martin to return to the back and find his guitar!! There then followed an uninterrupted set of classics folk stuff. Each member of the group being on form and enjoying the evening. They covered tracks such as Raggle Taggle Gipsies, The Bay of Biscay, and fare thee well
